Personal bot
The Personal bot is a general assistant. The organization sets up one Personal bot. Every person uses it with their own private chats, instructions, and memory. It is not a Company Bot: it has no groups, it is not pinned, and everyone in the organization can use it.
People find it in Chat, on the home and in the sidebar. It also answers in Slack and Teams direct messages when an Admin turns that on. See Slack and Teams.
Three layers
- The organization. An Owner or Admin sets the Personal bot up in the Console under Bots, Personal bot. The editor works like the Company Bot editor: model, instructions, web search, workspace, browser, skills, MCP connectors, files, and memory. The bot has the same Changes tab and publishes the same way. It has no triggers and cannot be paused.
- The member. Each person adds their own instructions and sets defaults in Chat under Settings.
- The chat. A person turns Workspace, Browser, Memory, and Web search on or off when a chat starts.
Members do not pick a model. They cannot add their own MCP connectors or upload skills.
What the organization decides
For Workspace, Browser, web search, memory, each skill, and each MCP connector, the Owner or Admin picks one of three modes:
- Always. On in every chat. Members cannot turn it off.
- On by default. On in a new chat. A member can turn it off.
- Off by default. Off in a new chat. A member can turn it on.
A new Personal bot has Workspace, web search, and memory on by default. A capability the bot does not have is not offered. A change applies to the next message, also in chats that already exist. A choice the organization no longer allows is ignored.
What a member decides
In Chat, open Settings from the user menu, then Personal bot:
- Your instructions. Text added after the instructions of your organization. Up to 4000 characters.
- Defaults. Whether Workspace, Web search, each skill, and each MCP connector start on or off. "Org default" follows your organization when it changes.
Settings also has Connected accounts. Some MCP connectors use your own account. Sign in or save your token there. Chat never shows a saved token again. You can replace or disconnect it. See Tools and MCP connectors.
In a new chat the composer shows the toggles Workspace, Browser, Memory, and Web search. A toggle that is "Always on" is locked. Browser and Memory need Workspace. Workspace, Browser, and Memory stay fixed once the chat has started. Web search applies from the next message. See Workspace and Memory.
Privacy
The Personal bot is private. Owners and Admins do not read its chats unless they take access for 2 hours. Every takeover is logged. See Privacy.
